Laboratory:  Behavioral and Evolutionary Ecology
Research interests:  Behavioral ecology, community ecology, Evolutionary ecology, Conservation ecology

My research interests lie in animal behavior, ecology, their interrelationships and evolutionary contexts, & implications for conservation. We study how interspecific & intraspecific individual differences in behavior, life history, & eco-morphological traits shape organisms’ roles, through various processes (competitive, predatory, herbivorous, parasitic, mutualistic, & sexual interactions) within populations or assemblages, and affect community structures and diversity. We focus on terrestrial vertebrates, but also certain invertebrates, and plants, such as bats, birds, amphibians, lizards, cicadas, soil arthropods, figs, and mistletoes. The present research themes include: (1) the integration of behavioral, sensory, & cognitive ecology, & its effects on habitat and resource use of animals; (2) animal-plant interactions and their effects on community structure; (3) the applications of restoration ecology in agro-ecological & urban ecosystems, and the implications for conservation and sustainability.

Ongoing research projects

(1) Exploratory behavior, personality, and the relationships with parasitism (theme 1)
(2) Echolocation behavior and chiropteran assemblages (theme 1)
(3) Frugivores, frugivory, and fig interactions (theme 2)
(4) Flower-peckers, mistletoes, and plant host interactions (theme 2)
(5) Agro-ecological field restoration, flower meadows, and biodiversity (theme 3)
(6) Avian behaviors in urban settings and the implications for urban conservation (theme 3)
(7) Wind farms and the impact on bats and birds (theme 1, 3)
